The Building Industry Conference Board is a local, nonprofit organization of men and women in the design and construction industry. Our purpose is to encourage communication within our industry by bringing together professionals from all aspects of development, design and construction on a regular basis, to exchange information on Bay Area construction issues. Our organization has been in existence since 1934 and has an active participation of over 400 companies and individuals.
Every other month we gather for lunch, and a short talk is given by an invited guest on a particular topic related to the industry in our locality. Occasionally we also hold these events at active jobsites and have project tours. These events are always enlightening professional and informal. Once a year the BICB Awards Banquet honors individuals in the Bay Area that stand out as having contributed exceptionally to the construction industry.
Few organizations bring together the diverse participants which make up the total “team” responsible for developing and completing a construction project. Through our bimonthly speaker program and annual awards banquet we bring together contractors, architects, engineers, consultants, suppliers, owners, developers, regulatory agencies and others. This group shares common industry trends, market forecasts, construction technology, legal and insurance issues, building code revisions and other impacts on our industry.
After 76 years, BICB continues to bring together team members on projects. We recognize those who use different contracting methods like Design-Build and Integrated Project Delivery, and formalize team relationships through partnering, which continues to improve the relationships within our industry. Our awards recipients have exerted a concerted effort to further team building spirit, which is what BICB is all about.
